The developmental (or substantive) edit is the first round of editing your manuscript will go through, after you have written, re-written, edited and re-edited the novel yourself. This is the edit which will most likely require the biggest re-write from you, the author, whilst collaborating with the editor.
As your developmental editor, I will:
What do I need from you?
If you would like me to carry out a developmental edit for you, I will need to see a selection of chapters before I can give you an estimate of costs; ideally two chapters from the beginning, two chapters from the middle, and two chapters from the end. I will need to see that you have drafted, drafted and drafted again before I begin to work on it.
If you decide to proceed, I will need your manuscript in full, ideally in Word, 12 pt. sized font and double spaced.
