Please reach me at jennifer@jenniferkaydavies.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Fiction editors check your manuscript line-by-line for things like passive voice, telling rather than showing, inconsistencies in spelling and hyphenation, whether each and every word is being used as effectively as possible, they make sure your writing is as lean as possible, that your grammar is appropriate. They also check for any inconsistencies in character descriptions and timelines, and much, much more.
I can't offer a definitive answer to this as it depends on so many factors: the length of the novel, the level of work it requires, how much collaboration is needed. However, to copyedit a 75,000 word novel which is already structurally sound on average takes around 25 hours. Sometimes it doesn't take as long as this, other times it can take longer. Once I begin work on a manuscript I aim to have it back with you within four weeks. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
I will ask for half of the payment upfront by way of a deposit. The other half is payable upon completion. Once I have finished the job I will email you your completed manuscript, your editorial report and style guide, and my invoice. I accept payment by bank transfer or Paypal, details of which will be specified on the invoice. I do not accept cash or cheques.
